Fire destroys Berwick Avenue home
Around 0200 hours Engine #81 arrived in the 1200 block of south Berwick to find a one story home with heavy fire throughout. Engine #81 began their attack as Ladder #82 started an aggressive search for victims, and Engine #82 stretched the back up line. Heavy fire conditions briefly pushed the interior crews out of the residence but only for a moment as exterior operations knocked the fire back to allow for an interior attack again. Engine #18 (Indianapolis) staged as RIT while Ladder #19 (Indianapolis) performed outside truck duties and assisted with overhaul. BC 8 (Rice) had Berwick command. The working fire transmission brought C860 (Safety), 809 (Fire Chiefs Aide/PIO), Medic #81, and TSU #83 to the scene. The fire was controlled within the hour.

Engine #85 and Task Force #84 arrive to find one pinned on Country Club Road
Engine #85 and Medic #84 arrived in the 2500 block of north Country Club Road to find a SUV on its side and one trapped after an apparent roll over accident. Task Force #84 arrived soon after, stabilized the vehicle and began removing the roof of the SUV to gain access to the patient. The patient was safely removed and transported to the trauma center by Medic #84. BC 8 (Rice) had Country Club command. This was the second accident requiring extrication in the last seven days in the 2500 block of north Country Club Road.

Extensive Extrication Required in 2500 block of North Country Club Road
Engine #85 arrived with Task Force #84 in the 2500 block of Country Club Road to find one SUV "over the edge" with one pinned. The SUV was hanging on the hillside at a very dangerous angle. Task Force #84 performed a very difficult extrication with the assistance of Ladder #82 (Special called). The patient was removed and transported to the trauma center by Medic #84. Fire rages through residence on South Worth Av.
Crews were dispatched in the late evening hours to a residence fire on the 800 blk of S. Worth Av. Upon arrival Battalion 8 found heavy smoke pouring from the front of the residence. Ladder #82 arrived next, vented the fire room from the outside and entered the structure to conduct a primary search. Engine #83 arrived as first engine, established a water supply and made a rapid attack on the fire. Engine #82 established a protection line on the residence next door due to fire impingement. Although there was smoke damage throughout the entire structure, the fire was primarily maintained to a front bedroom. Lt. Craig Peoples is credited with rescuing a kitten from the residence while assisting in a quick primary search.

Crews battle semi-tractor fire
Engine #81 and Medic Engine #774 were dispatched to the Kenworth lot on south Holt Road for a semi-tractor fire. As Engine #81 pulled out of the firehouse the could see the heavy smoke plume rising over the trees. Upon arrival they found the tractor heavily involved with fire. Engine #81 deployed an inch and three-quarter attack line while Medic Engine #774 prepared to reverese out in case extra water was needed. Crews were able to knock the fire down however the tractor was a total loss. This fire remains under investigation.

Crews battle residence fire with unusual heat conditions
Engine #81, Engine #82, Ladder #82, Ladder #84, Battalion #8, and Medic Engine #774 were dispatched to the 4900 block of west Raymond Street on a possible residence fire. Battalion #8 arrived and marked heavy smoke showing from all four sides of the residence. TSU #83 and Medic #81 were dispatched as the working fire companies. Engine #81 deployed an inch and three-quarter attack line and aggressively attacked the fire while Ladder #82 searched for any possible victims. Engine #81 quickly brought the fire under control and after a rapid search by Ladder #82, no victims were found. This residence had drop ceilings installed which made for some challenging heat conditions. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. This fire is still under investigation.

Honoring those who have fallen in the line of duty
One day after Wayne Township Fire Department buried beloved Paramedic Vania Shields who died in a tragic line of duty death, firefighters from around the state gathered in downtown Indianapolis to honor the lives of all who have fallen in the line of duty. Today we remember the ultimate sacrafice made by the brave.
