The Wayne Township Fire Department protects 38 square miles of west central Indianapolis. Last year, WTFD responded to 19,500 calls for service. The department responds from five firehouses staffed by five Engine companies, two Ladder companies, three Shift Battalion Chiefs, three shift Safety Officers, and three Shift EMS Duty Officers. A total of 130 Firefighters work 24 hours on and 48 hours off. An additional 20 civilian staff are required to ensure the department is ready.
In addition to emergency response, the Wayne Township Fire Department provides building inspections, fire investigations, vehicle maintenance, building and ground maintenance, public education, project lifesavers, CPR, and other services.
